How can I become a professional country-western singer?
Hi im 14, and I love country-western music. I love Taylor Swift, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood and more. I need some advice on how to be not only any other country-western singer, but one to remember. Thanks please answer!
Given the way your question is worded, the short answer is you cannot. EVER. The reason being, your stated interest is in being successful. There is not a single Country Music Hall of Famer who ever set out with the intention of becoming a Country Music Hall of Famer. They had the love and desire of music that precluded everything, INCLUDING FAME. One Hall of Famer said that if he had to sit on a street corner with his guitar case open for people to toss money in, that's what he would do because his desire more than anything was to play. Another said he never dreamed that people would pay to see him; in fact, HE would have paid THEM to listen. Another Hall of Famer thought he was in "high cotton" because he was making $3 a week playing on the radio during the Depression. THAT is what it takes to become "one to remember."
Once you do as Strother Martin said in "Cool Hand Luke," the standard rules apply:
1. Study the music industry. Once you see what it takes to "make it" today you might not want it. Consider what you're going to deprive yourself of and endure (read what Tiger Woods is going through at this moment as an example of the price of fame), and especially consider that, unless you're U2, "your" career is not YOURS but rather your agent's, your manager's, and your producer's. They'll tell you when to sing, what to sing, how to sing it, what to eat, when to floss your teeth, and what noise you're supposed to make when you snore at night. If you doubt it, read some biographies.
2. Stay where you are and develop a following. If your hometown doesn't want you, neither does Nashville.
3. Develop your own sound. If you focus on trying to be the next (whomever) by the time you're discovered whomever you were impersonating will be a feature on "Where are they now" on "Showbiz Tonight" on CNN Headline News.
4. And if you really "love country-western music," SING IT. Don't sing pop and call it country.
